Welcome to year 1! We have lots to look forward to this year. Please find useful information about year 1 below. Please keep an eye on the page for photographs. Reminders and events will be posted on Google Classroom (please bear with us as we are in the process of setting this up)! 
 

In the next couple of weeks we will be sending log in details for EdShed and Hwb, please keep these at home, in a safe place. EdShed will include something called SpellingShed which is a great resource to help your child with spelling. We are currently assessing and setting up spelling lists. It will also include a MathShed activity and we would appreciate it if you could try to work with your child on their assigned maths and spelling task each week, it will really support your child's reading and basic numeracy skills. 
 

We use a really exciting reward scheme - children are given dojos for a range of achievements and being a great friend. Each week we will recognise a child and award a dojo champion of the week. We will also encourage them to continue to work to improve themselves as part of our work in. Class on developed a growth mindset. 

Reading books will be sent home from Thursday 5th September and will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays (only if children have finished reading the book). Please return your child’s reading book and reading log each day in their book bag. Please aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week if you can (even if it's just one or two pages). The more you read, the better!
Once your child has finished their book it would be great if you could ask them questions about it, this will help to develop their comprehension skills. Every time you hear your child read please can you make a note in their reading log.
Reading regularly helps your child to develop their confidence and love of reading, their phonic knowledge and it also supports their writing. We will award dojos for regular home reading!
 

PE is on Tuesday and Thursday.
Please send your child into school wearing their full PE kit on these days, you do not need to bring pumps into school, trainers are fine but please ensure that your child can tie their own laces if they are wearing laced trainers. 

If your child has their ears pierced, please ensure they are removed on PE days or covered up with plasters.
 

Please could you order your child's meal via the schoolcomms app each morning.

We ask that your child comes to school with a labelled water bottle on a Monday and these will be returned home on a Friday for a deep clean. We will fill and rinse them in school each day.
 
This year the children will have a 'continuous snack' time, this means that they can have their snack during any part of the morning when they would like it.
Please send your child in with a healthy snack each day. Please label your child's snack as these will be put into the class snack box. 
 

Please make sure uniform, book bags, coats and lunch boxes are clearly marked with your child's name, it helps children keep track of their belongings and become more independent.
