What We Have Done This Term

Over the past six weeks, the Nursery children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic and made wonderful progress across all areas of learning. We have explored various animals, focusing on those found on a farm. Through asking questions, engaging in group discussions, and sharing personal experiences, the children have deepened their understanding of this topic.

The children have also continued to develop their number recognition and overall understanding of numbers. Their communication skills have grown significantly, and they’ve shown increased confidence in expressing themselves. Throughout this topic, we’ve fostered creativity, particularly as we’ve learned about springtime and animals, resulting in some beautiful artwork.

A particular highlight has been our exploration of eggs hatching and growing. We are excited to have four chicks in school, and the children have come up with some wonderful name ideas, which we will choose after Easter.

The children thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the farm. It was a joy to take them, and I couldn’t have been prouder of them all.

Thank you for your ongoing support this term, and I hope the children have a well-deserved and restful Easter holiday.

What's happening this half term in Nursery?

This half term, our Nursery topic is Springtime and Animals. We will be hatching eggs, caring for them, and watching the chicks grow. Once the chicks are old enough, they will stay at school, where we will continue to look after them.

We will also be learning about Dewi Sant (St. David). The children will explore where he lived by looking at a map and comparing it to our location. Additionally, we’ll be making Welsh cakes, using our maths skills to measure the ingredients. On Friday, 7th March, everyone is invited to come to school dressed in Welsh colours or in traditional Welsh costume to celebrate!

As part of this topic, we will discuss the changes that come with Spring. The children will search for signs of Spring during our walks and continue with our outdoor learning activities.

In numeracy, the children will explore a variety of skills, including sorting, measuring, counting, identifying shapes, and comparing similarities and differences.

We will also be focusing on farm animals and how they are cared for. We will talk about who looks after farm animals and why they are important. To give the children a deeper understanding, we will be going on a farm trip, where they can see the animals in their natural environment and explore if their ideas about animal care are correct. More information to follow.

Additionally, we are excited to welcome an author to the Nursery, who will read a book to the children and engage them in a literacy activity.

We will continue building our phonics skills with RWI (Read Write Inc.) and support the children in writing their own names.

Thank you for your continued support!
Croeso,
Mrs. Thwaite
