What a beautiful week it has been! We have fully taken advantage of the glorious weather and spent lots of time having fun outside!
This week in Literacy we have read the classic story of ‘The Jolly Postman’. We talked about how important the postman’s job is delivering all of our post. We loved the story so much that we decided to write our own postcards to our family. Keep an eye out for you postman over the next few days as there may be a surprise in the post 😉.
We were super egg-cited to receive a post card from Jack (Jack and the beanstalk). He asked for our help to deliver a special golden egg to the giant. The only problem is that the giant lives up a bean stalk and we need to get it to him safely. We decided to do an experiment using a normal egg to see if we can package it up safely enough for it not to crack in the post. We put our thinking hats on a had a good look around the class for the right materials. We thought that we would need something soft to put around the egg but also we needed to make sure it didn’t roll. Have a look at our photos to see what we ended up choosing. Then Mrs Price wrote our schools address on and took the parcel to the post office and put on a special word FRAGILE so that the post man knew to be careful with our parcel. We couldn’t wait for the postman to come the next day to see if our egg had survived the journey. Ask your children what the outcome was 😉.
In Numeracy this week we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We figured out that all of the even numbers are in the two times tables and that the odd numbers are all of the ones that we skip over. We also realised that you can tell if any number, no matter how big it is, if it is odd or even just by looking at the end number. We even looked at numbers in the thousands! We are so clever 😊.
Literacy - reading the story ‘The Wonky Donkey’ and identifying rhyming words.
Numeracy - Looking at subtraction practically and then with a number line.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and a super special Mother’s Day (you deserve it)! 💐❤️
