This week we have been continuing to learn about ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. We have been learning about the lifecycle of a plant and planning investigations. 



In our language we have been inventing characters to replace the Giant or Jim in the story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. We have been thinking about what they would look like and what personality traits they would have. The children have come up with the most amazing characters and have really shown a creative side! They have come up with all sorts of ideas, animal characters, aliens and different people. 

We have also been putting together connective sentences. Making some silly sentences and remembering that we only need one connective per sentence. 

The children have independently answered questions about the story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. 



In maths this week we have been weighing objects using non-standard units. They have been estimating how many beans each object weighs. They have then been weighing them on the balancing scales to find out how many beans each object weighs. They really needed to think about how heavy each object was in comparison to a bean. It was tricky work but they did amazing!

They have been using the scales to find objects and put them in order of weight from lightest to heaviest and heaviest to lightest. 



In our topic we have been planning an investigation to work out what material we could make Jim's harness from. We want to get Jim down the beanstalk quickly by using the zipwire. We have a list of material the children want to investigate and they have been making predictions based on what we learnt about friction last week. We are looking forward to doing the investigation next week. 

The children have enjoyed making some seed art using air dry clay and making them into flower shapes. 

They have also been putting plants in order of the plant life cycle.
