WOW, there is so much to tell you about this week! We have been working so hard this week so Mrs Jones has said we can have an extra day off on Monday!

We have been learning all about plants this week and what they need to grow; water, light and the right temperature. In Literacy we have started completing our ‘Bean diaries’. Over the next few weeks we will be writing down our observations of our ‘bean in a bag’ investigation that we started this week. We have all put a bean in a zippy bag , placed it in the sunlight and given them some water to see if it will grow. We were super surprised to see that some of the beans have started to grow only two days into the investigation! We can’t wait to see what happens over the weekend.
Miss C has also been taking us outside to practise our gardening skills and digging up those pesky weeds that have been growing in our allotments. We loved getting our hands dirty!

In Numeracy this week we have been practising the skill of measuring using beans! First We had to estimate how many beans tall we thought the beanstalks were and then use the real beans to measure. We were great at doing this and our estimations were almost spot on! We have loved reading lots of stories about magic beans and ginormous beanstalks!

We have really enjoyed learning all about plants and carrying out our bean investigations so much so that we decided to carry out our own experiment. As a class we decided that we wanted to see what would happen if we put a bean in a dark place. We predicted that it wouldn’t grow because plants need light to grow, but to our amazement the bean in the darkness has started to germinate!

Not only do we have a puppy in class 1...we now also have 5 little caterpillars πŸ› we have named them; Curly, Cuthbert, Colin, Cecil and Clyde! Everyday we check to see if they have grown and each day they are getting bigger and bigger! We have predicted what colour we think they are going to be when they turn into butterflies. We can’t wait to see what happens next when they are ready to turn into cocoons.

What a super busy we have had! We have also been making lots of beautiful flower art by practising our cutting skills and using cotton buds to cover them in lots of little spots. We are certain ally ready for a bank holiday weekend!

Next week:

Literacy - Carrying on completing our Ben diaries with our observations.
Numeracy - We are investigating different temperatures from freezing to hot.

Topic - This week is all about mini-beasts! We will be going on lots of hunts outside to see how many we can collect.

The children have worked extremely hard this week, we are super proud of them and how they have continued to complete all the work we have been giving them to do. We hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend! Thank you for all of your support.
