A bit of a strange week for the children this week with Mrs Jones being off, but we are so proud of how the children have carried on trying their best and doing some fantastic learning.
This is Week we have been learning all about the festvail of Diwali. We enjoyed learning the story about Rama and Sita and the evil demon Ravannah. Watch the video below of the story and see if they can retell the story to you. The children decided that they wanted to make some masks so that they could act out the story in class. We learnt about how Diwali is celebrated all around the world and thought the colourful Rangoli patterns were beautiful, we even had a go at making some ourselves. The activity we enjoyed the most though was making a diya lamp out of clay. It was so much fun moulding it with our hands, we got very messy.
In Literacy we wrote some fantastic poems about all of the different colours. Here’s one we wrote together; Blue like the sky, red like a poppy, green like the grass, yellow like the sun and orange like fire. We have been busy in our construction area too building the wonder of the Taj Mahal.
Our skill in Numeracy this week was ‘one more’ and ‘one less’. We used a number line to help us jump forward when adding one more and backwards when taking one away. We loved playing the interactive helicopter rescue game (see link below). We also got to have a go at learning programming skills on our robotic Bee-Bot, we had to make him move to find the right number using one more and one less, it was so much fun.
literacy - letter of the week ‘g’. We will be reading the story of Elmer and writing about our favourite part.
Numeracy - Number of the week ‘10’. We will be practising the skill of estimating.
Topic - We will be learning all about elephants and doing lots of colourful elephant craft to make our very own Elmers.
We hope you have a lovey weekend.
