Wow! What a super busy week it has been! From reading our favourite traditional tales, carrying out a science investigation for science week and then ending with the celebration of Red Nose Day and World Book Day!

In Literacy this week we have been reading lots of traditional tales including; The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Bean Stalk and many more! We have been using our knowledge of adjectives to write about our favourite characters from the stories. With Miss C we used story stones to retell the story of the Three Little Pigs, she was very impressed with our story telling skills! We’ve loved playing in the story area and the three bears cottage where we have been role playing lots of the stories and scaring Mrs Price pretending to be the big bad wolf! We’ve had so much fun using our imaginations and exploring with these special stories.

In Numeracy we have been practising the skill of addition! We knocked Mrs Price’s socks off with how clever we are, we even added numbers all the way to 20! We have enjoyed using a range of items around the classroom to help us with practising our adding skills. We have been using the number fans to check our work and help us with our number formation. There are lots of fun games too that we have been playing on the iPads. !!links are not working!! Search for the website ‘Topmarks’ which is full of addition games and much more.

This week has also been Science week! We decided to investigate which material would build the strongest house fo pr the three little pigs. Each group chose what materials they wanted to use to build their houses with including the floor and roof. We got our science hats on and really had a good think about how we would build or houses to make them nice and strong. We showed super teamwork skills and worked together to create some brilliant houses. We got a big surprise though when Mrs Price got the huge industrial fan out and tried to blow our houses away and then she double surprised us when the water came out! We learned that the houses made out of sticks and Lego bricks were the strongest but all of the roofs blew away and when the rain came they all got  dry soggy! The house made out of straws was the weakest, it got completely blown off the table 🙈!

In PE we had so much fun completing an assault course where we had to use our balancing and jumping skills. In forest school this week we played the game ‘manhunt’ and used our thinking skills to make our names out of sticks. We are so clever!

Next week:

Literacy - We will be reading the classic story of ‘The Jolly Postman’ and looking at letter writing.

Numeracy - Looking at odd and even numbers

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
