This week we have been learning all about space. We have read the story ‘Look Up’ all about a little girl who loves space. The children used story spoons with the characters faces to act out the story. In the book, Rocket's big brother was always looking down at his phone. This brought up the conversation about ways we talk and communicate. They have thought about ways we communicate and which ones we do online and offline. We have been making Christmas cards, a little early as they are part of a competition. The children had some lovely designs.
In maths we have been continuing to learn how to tell the time. We have been telling the time to o’clock and half past. We have been matching the clocks to the written time. We have also been playing time games, the children have really enjoyed these. As a challenge the children were using the clocks to set their partners times.
In topic we have been learning about the planets. We have ordered them using our rhyme - My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nachos. They then used this to help them order the planets and think about what each planet looks like.
They have been painting the moon and stars using different methods, these have come out really well. We have been thinking about what would make a good astronaut. We then wrote an application form thinking about what skills we would need. We had some very interesting ideas!
In maths we will be learning ordinal numbers. We will be having a number of races and cracking codes.
In language we will be learning about speech bubbles. We will be using our story ‘Look Up’ as a model. The children will be making their own speech bubbles using facts they know about space already.
In topic we will be learning about the creation story from the Bible. The children will be making their own books.
