What a ‘fintastic’ first week of term it has been! This term our topic is ‘Under the Sea’ 🐙🦐🦀🐡🐠🐬🐳🦈. On Tuesday it was ‘World Oceans Day’. We learnt about the importance of picking up our litter, did you know that it ends up in our oceans and is damaging the marine life! Scientists have predicted that if we don’t clean up our act by 2050 our seas will have more pieces of plastic then the amount of fish! We made posters to spread the message to help save our oceans; recycle your plastics, don’t litter and turn off your taps!
In Literacy we looked through information books about the oceans, sea life and the seaside. Mrs Jones is letting us decide what we would like to learn about this term so we wrote down lots of questions we have about our topic. Here are of the things we want to find out; what is the biggest sea creature? Is the giant squid real? What lives at the bottom of the ocean? How many types of shark are there? What is the most dangerous shark? How many oceans are there? What is the biggest ocean?
In Numeracy we have been practising the skill of collecting data. We had to go on a mission to find out what everyone’s favourite sea creature is, the most voted for sea creature was.....the shark 🦈. Once we collected the data we then put it into a block graph. Mrs Jones was very impressed that we could do this without any help! We have been making lots of under the sea crafts with Miss C to make our beautiful display board! Miss C has transformed our classroom to look like we are all living under the deep blue sea, she is so clever! Thank you Miss C 😘.
This week the whole school has participated in a special investigation for ‘Science Week’. Mr Dixon asked us to find out if our eye colour, height, shoe size and gender has anything to do with how far we can jump. We have sent our results and are eagerly awaiting to see if there is a pattern across all of the year groups. What do you think?
Literacy - We are learning all about rhyming words!
Numeracy - Revising money and practising paying for Ice creams!
Topic - Finding out some of the answers to our questions.
Thank you for all of your hard work this week! We hope you all have a lovely sunny weekend ☀️
