Wow, what a fantastic first week back! This week we have been learning all about Bonfire night! We were given the special job to perform a class assembly all about bonfire safety. Mrs Price was blown away by our acting skills and the whole class learnt a special song to help spread the important message for how to stay safe. We did an amazing job and are all experts in bonfire safety (see video below).

In Literacy we read the story 'Sparks in the Sky' and used our five senses to describe bonfire night; see, hear, smell, taste and touch. The children wrote some super sentences describing bonfire night using their senses e.g. I can see colourful fireworks, I can hear a big bang, I can smell yummy burgers. We also made some lovely firework pictures using black card and colourful chalks to create beautiful patterns. With Miss C we made some very sparkly firework pictures, we all got covered in glitter (Miss C the most)! We loved dressing up warm in hats, scarfs, gloves and wellies. We were pretending that we were going to see a bonfire.

Our skill in Numeracy this week was looking at different times in the day and ordering our daily routine. We talked about the days of the week and how we have do different activities at the weekend, our favourite was a nice lie in on a Sunday morning.

We know all about bonfire night but we didn't know why we celebrate it. We learned that we celebrate bonfire night because of a man called Guy Fawkes and his gun powder plot. Can you believe that he tried to blow up Parliament?!! Why did he want to do this? Well he wasn't happy with King James I, he was a mean King so Guy Fawkes wanted to teach him a lesson (not a very nice lesson). Luckily the Kings men caught him before he was about to light the gun powder and he was arrested (phew). From that day we have been celebrating that his plan did not work each year on the 5th November.

Next week: Remembrance Week!

Literacy - Letter of the week 'n'. Talking about all of our special memories. You might want to talk about some of your family memories this weekend.

Numeracy - Number of the week '9'. Counting a group of objects up to 20!

Topic - lots of crafts for Remembrance Day

We hope you have a lovely bonfire weekend. Have lots of fun, but, remember to stay safe!
