We have had a busy first week back. It has been lovely to see everyone again and hear about some very creative things that were done over the half term.
This week in language we have spent time getting to know what sounds the children have learnt last half term. It has been great to see how hard the children have been working in their reading.
We have been looking at what makes a good sentence and how we structure sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have been learning about capital letters and matching them with their lower case sound.
In maths we have been learning different ways to add two numbers together. We have been using number squares, keeping one number on the shelf (in our heads) then counting on and using the blocks to add together. We have let the children choose which way they prefer.
We have been playing noughts and crosses with adding our number sentences. The children had lots of fun playing this game together. We have also been revisiting tens and units. The children have ordered numbers thinking about how many tens and how many units.
This week we have been planning our new topic, finding out what the children know already. What they want to find out in the next half term. We have also been thinking about Remembrance Day. We have made poppies and thought about why we observe this day. We have been thinking about peace and what makes us feel peaceful. The children have made some lovely pictures.
In language next week we'll be learning about the Titanic for our Humanities week. We will be making boarding passes. Acting out how the passengers got on the ship and what the different classes of people would do while on the ship. We will be learning about vocabulary to describe the different parts of the ship.
In maths we will be revisiting adding. We will be adding different amounts of Titanic related objects.
We will be learning how to tell the time. We will be telling the time on an analogue clock to half past and o’clock. We will be thinking about what time things would have happened on the ship.
We will be thinking about the Titanic and what the passengers might have seen outside of the window on the ship. We will be colouring in the different areas of where the classes were allowed and where they slept on the ship. We will be acting as different people that might have been on the ship and what they would have done while on board.
