Today we left our accommodation and drove to The Big Pit in Balenavon, a former working pit and now a World Heritage Site.We had our lunch and then the children and staff went to the pit head and put on helmets and lamps. We got into the mine lift and descended 90metres. It is damp and cramped down there, very low ceilings and very dark in places but fascinating to see how boys as young as 6 years old would wok in such conditions. We also went to see the underground stables where pit ponies would be housed 24/7, 50 weeks of the year. That was the last part of our trip to Cardiff. We know the children have all had a great time and have learned a lot more about our capital city and Welsh heritage. We are also sure they will sleep well tonight. We certainly will 😴😴😴
