What have we been doing this week?
This week we have been learning all about positional language, our left turns, right turns, half turn and quarter turns. The children have enjoyed drawing their own maps and then using the Spheros to travel across the map.
In language we have been getting creative, the children have create some fantastic stories of their own ‘Very Hungry…’ we have had some very interesting animals that have eaten some very interesting things. We have defiantly enjoyed reading these!
In topic we have planned and carried out an investigation all about ‘what will happen to a plant with different sources of light’. We have planted the seeds and next week we will observe what has happened to them.
We have also found the lifecycle of a frog very interesting this week, we have researched the progress of metamorphosis and have observed tadpoles from our school pond.
In forest school we had a very fun word hunt. The children had to get to the end of the trail to find some yummy hot chocolate for a treat.
We have seen our caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies over the past few weeks, as they have been in our classroom for most of their lives, we thought it would be kind to let them free. This was a fantastic experience as the butterflies did not want to leave. The children were rather sad to say goodbye.
What will we be doing next week?
No time for rest in the last week of half term, next week we will be busy learning about algebra. We will be working out the missing number in the number sentences, we will be using lots of resources to help us do this.
In language we will be working on our comprehension skills, we will be reading a non-fiction text about frogs and then answering the questions. The children will be going outside to do some pond dipping in our school pond area and discussing the rules around ponds and water.
We have our science investigation to observe next week, we will be concluding what happens to a plant with different sources of light. As it is our last week, we will be completing our topic evaluation to see what we have learnt this half term and what we would like to work on next half term.
In our circle time we will be discussing wildlife, how we look after it and why. We would like to teach the children about the importance of our wildlife, including the tiny bugs we have and what role they play in our planet.
