VE Day Diary Entry

I hope you have enjoyed researching VE Day and thank you to those of you who sent photos to us.

Your task today is to write a detailed diary entry about VE Day. You have 2 choices -

1) Choose one person from a street party on the 8th May, 1945 and write a diary entry for them about how they felt about the war ending.

2) Imagine you are a soldier on the front line during the Second World War. You have just found out that the war in Europe is over.  Write a diary entry about the experience, and how you feel.

A successful diary entry could include (depending on which diary you choose) -

  • Have you seen the Blitz?
  • Do you know anyone fighting?
  • How have you coped with rationing?
  • How do you feel about the Germans?
  • Have you been evacuated?
  • Do you expect things to now return to normal?
  • Has the war changed the world?

If you would like to make your work look old, why don't you try tea staining your paper for your final draft? Please send photos of your final and complete diary entry.

Below I have added a Diary Writing Helpful Hints poster and a Diary Writing Checklist for you to self assess you work.
