Week beginning 27th June

The children have been very excited this week especially as they now know who their teacher will be in Year 1. The children have been working hard to complete their Profile Pages for Mr Sweede. I am sure he is going to be very impressed with what they have written.

In Numeracy this week the children have been looking at halves. They have been halving different objects and also programming Beebot to make half turns too.

In Literacy this week the children have been using capitals letters, full stops and finger spaces to write a sentence about the Seaside.

The children have been making beach huts by measuring straws and cutting them to size. The have also been comparing what the seaside was like in both the past and the present.

Next week 4th July

The children will be learning all about the story ‘Rainbow Fish’ they will be revisiting their pattern skills when they create ice lollies. They will be using all their phonics knowledge to complete various challenge tasks and designing a poster for the Reception class next year.

Week Beginning    20th June 2022

What a busy week we have had! This week we have been reading the book' Commotion in the Ocean'. This book is full of poems about sea creatures. We had a good go at identifying the rhyming words and did a super job. In Literacy we have been writing our own poems about sea creatures but in the form of a riddle. A riddle is when you give clues to see if you can work out what sea creature we are describing. We wrote some fantastic riddles all by ourselves using our knowledge of the sea creatures to help. Can you solve our class riddle: I have orange and white stripes, I live in an anemone, I swim in the sea, what am I?

We had to remember their capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in the work too. With Mrs Pritchard we had lots of fun making a Sea Soundtrack with lots of instruments, we made a beat of 4 and sang lots of songs.

In Numeracy we have been practising reading a clock with a focus on o'clock and even half past! We are getting really good at reading the time and talking about different times of the day. We made our own paper plate clocks too, making sure that we put the numbers in the correct place. We are beginning to remember that the long hand is the minutes and the small hand is the hour. Can you find any clocks around you house? Keep practising looking and talking about the time.

Next week:

Literacy - Barnaby Bear goes to the seaside! We will be writing about the seaside for a writing assessment. Can you use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces independently?

Numeracy - Recapping halving skills

Topic - Comparing the seaside past and present

Thank you for your continued support! We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Telling the Time

In outdoor learning this week we made a oral reef and had fun with the bubble machine.

Week Beginning 13th June

In our Number lessons this week we have been using coins within 10p to pay for ice creams in our Ice Cream Parlour. YUMMY YUMMY!

As part of our healthy eating week we have been talking about all the healthy foods we like to eat and why they are important for out bodies. We also talked about why it is important to drink lots of water when it is hot too!

We have enjoyed being outside in the lovely weather and exploring all the fancy dress clothes.

In our P.E this week we have been moving around like sea creatures with our partners. We moved like crabs and lobsters and had to use our super  listening skills to move correctly.

Next Week

wb 20th June
Next week the children will be learning how to read an analogue clock using o’clock and half past. They will be playing lots of time games and making clocks too! The children will also be using a range of instruments to create an Under Water sound story. They will also be looking at rhyming words and using their phonics skills to solve the riddles too.

Week Beginning 6th June

This week has been the beginning of our new topic ‘Under the Sea’ the children have been very enthusiastic about all the interesting things that they will be finding out about.

In Numeracy this week we have been busy collecting data and recording it using a block graph. The children were then able to interpret the data and were able to see their results.

The children enjoyed both counting sea creatures and independently asking their friends what their favourite sea creature was.

The children also used QR codes to access an underwater counting game on the iPads too.

In Literacy the children have been looking at non fiction books and thinking about what they already know about ‘Under the Sea’. In their groups they then thought about what else they would like to find out about.

The children have enjoyed being outside making sandcastles and finding sea creatures in the water. They have used some wonderful language to describe what they have made and found.

The children have made some wonderful Jellyfish for their role play area.

On Wednesday it was World Ocean Day so we made lots of posters to tell people how to look after our oceans and what rubbish, especially plastic, can do to the sea creatures.

We have been very busy this week and are really enjoying our new topic.

Next week

wb : 13th June

We will be continuing to have lots of fun with our new topic. In literacy the children will be writing about what their talents are and be discussing all about being a good friend.

In Numeracy we will be opening up our Ice Cream parlour and will be using coins to buy ice creams.
