Blwyddyn 5
Croeso i Flwyddyn 5! Welcome to Year 5!
What can you expect in Year 5?
Throughout the year, we will explore a wide range of topics and experiences, including exciting learning in Mathematics, Literacy, Science and Technology, Humanities, Languages, Expressive Arts and Health and Wellbeing. We will be exploring three core themes over the course of the year; Inventors and inventions, Landscapes near and far, and Superstars.
We encourage all children to be curious, ask questions, challenge themselves and take pride in their learning. Developing independence is an important part of Year 5, and children will increasingly be expected to organise themselves, look after their belongings and take responsibility for completing tasks.
PE Days
Our PE sessions will take place on:
- Monday
- Thursday (returning to Wednesday after Christmas break)
Children should come to school wearing their school PE kit on these days. Please ensure that all clothing and footwear is clearly labelled with your child's name.
Homework
Homework will be set regularly to support and reinforce learning in school.
Children will be expected to:
- Read regularly at home (more than three times a week) and discuss their books with an adult.
- Practice weekly set multiplication tables.
- Practice weekly set spelling lists.
Reading for pleasure is a core element of Year 5 and a priority for the school. We encourage children to read a variety of books, comics, magazines and other age-appropriate texts at home.
Equipment and Organisation
Please help your child to come to school prepared each day with:
- A named water bottle.
- Their reading book and reading record.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather.
- Their PE kit on PE days.
As the children become older, we encourage them to take increasing responsibility for remembering their equipment and belongings.
Communication
We value positive communication between home and school. If you have any questions, concerns or information you would like to share, please get in touch through the school's usual communication channels.
We look forward to working in partnership with you throughout the year and celebrating the children's achievements, progress and successes.
