Blwyddyn 1

Croeso i Flwyddyn 1!

Please find below some useful information and details about the exciting things coming up in Year 1.

Reminders and upcoming events will be posted on Google Classroom. You will need your child’s Hwb username and password to access this, so please keep these details safely at home.

If you need anything or have any questions, please contact the office via the School Gateway or email us at ewmail@hwbcymru.net .

Dojos

In school, we use Class Dojo to reward our wonderful children. Children are awarded Dojos for a range of achievements and acts of kindness.

Each week, we will recognise a child who has gone above and beyond and award them Dojo Champion of the Week.

Spellings

Spellings will be posted on Google Classroom every Monday. These are the spelling patterns we are learning in class and, where possible, we would like you to practise these at home too.

There will be no formal spelling tests, but we will have lots of spelling games and challenges in class to help consolidate the children’s learning.

Reading

Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays, provided that your child has finished their current book. Please return your child’s reading book and reading log each day.

The more you read, the better! However, please aim to read with your child at least three times a week if you can, even if it is only one or two pages each time.

Reading regularly will help your child develop their confidence and love of reading, strengthen their phonics knowledge and support their writing.

Dojos will be awarded to children who read four or more times a week!

P.E.

PE is on Mondays and Thursdays. Please send your child into school wearing their full PE kit on these days. You do not need to bring pumps into school; trainers are absolutely fine.

Please ensure that your child is able to fasten their own shoes.

If your child has their ears pierced, please ensure that earrings are removed on PE days or covered with plasters. Long hair should also be tied up, please.

Drinks, Snacks and Lunch

Please order your child’s school meal via the School Comms app each morning.

We ask that your child brings a labelled water bottle to school on a Monday. These will be sent home on a Friday for a deep clean. We will rinse and refill the bottles in school each day. If you would prefer to take your child’s water bottle home each day, that is absolutely fine too!

Please send your child to school with a healthy snack each day. Please label your child’s snack, as these will be placed in the class snack box.

Labelling

Please make sure that all uniform, bags, book bags, coats, snack boxes, drinks bottles and lunch boxes are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

This helps children to keep track of their belongings and encourages them to become more independent.
