Always Aiming High – Anelu’n Uchel O Hyd

Week 3 - WB 23.4.18

Our star of the week is Amelia, well done Amelia.

Our star of the week is Amelia, well done Amelia. 1

What have we been doing this week?

This week we have been learning about the life-cycle of a butterfly. We have been thinking about what would happen if we planted a magic bean and what would be at the top of what has grown from our magic bean. We have also been learning to describe the characters from the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

In maths we have been learning how to halve numbers to 10 and 20. We have been playing some halving and doubling games. In circle time we have been talking about how we look after living things.

In year 1 we have got our very own caterpillars to take of and to observe growing into butterflies, so next week we will observe what changes have been taking place.

What will we be doing next week?

Next week we will be looking at the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', and thinking more about the life-cycle of a butterfly. We will be using the 'Story Buddy' app on the iPads to write our own digital information books based upon the life-cycle of a butterfly.

We will also be going outside to prepare our class allotment area for when we plant seeds the following week.

We will be continuing to observe the changes to our caterpillars in class and will begin to complete our 'Caterpillar Diaries', to record all of our observations.

In our topic work, we will be thinking about different kinds of plants, including ones that we can eat and ones that we can't eat.

We will also be reading the story of 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle, and using it to learn about the life-cycle of a plant.

In maths, we will be learning about symmetry. We'll be completing symmetrical pictures of butterflies, and learning to find the lines of symmetry,

In circle time, we will be thinking back to the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and discussing which foods are healthy and unhealthy and the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.
