What have we been doing this week?
This week we have been getting into the characters from the story ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet’. We have been thinking about how the dinosaur would feel and what he might be thinking in the story and then we have been ‘Hot-Seating’ the character. The children then had the chance to ask the dinosaur questions.
In maths we have been learning all about odd and even numbers, we have been sorting numbers, singing the number cruncher song and the children have been on a number hunt around the houses.
In circle time we have talked about who we value, who looks after us and how, the children had fantastic answers, we have such a caring and kind year 1.
In PE we have been learning more gymnastic shapes, how to hold them steady and make sequences using all the shapes we know.
The children have made a lovely Welsh display using their clocks and writing the Welsh times next to them.
What will we be doing next week?
Next week we will be doing more work focused on ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet’. We will be writing a diary entry, imagining that we are the dinosaur in the story. We will be looking at the way a diary entry is structured and really getting into character!
In maths we will be focusing on the skill of measuring. We will be using our new spheros (small spherical robots that can be controlled from the Ipad) for the first time, and controlling them to move from the sun to the different planets and then measuring the distance.
We will be estimating the amount of shoes that can fit inside a dinosaur foot and the length.
In our topic work, we will be learning about constellations, we will be researching to find the answers to questions that the children have.
In circle time we will be focusing on the story of ‘The Good Samaritan’ and discussing how we can help people.
