Our Trip to Llandudno

On Thursday, 18th May we visited Llandudno. We have been learning about Llandudno in our topic lessons. We visited the Great Orme where we went on a nature walk with Gabe, one of the Orme's nature wardens then we had a look around the Copper Mines.

First we took a tram ride up to the summit of the Great Orme where we met Gabe, he taught us all about the nature you can find on the Great Orme. He even let us hold a real goats horn!

Then Gabe took us fossil hunting, this was really fun! We managed to find a few rare fossils!

After we had lunch we met our instructor Dan. He taught us all about how they made copper by crushing and melting the malicite that they dug out of the mines. We went on a tour through the copper mines, it was really interesting!

Llandudno Trip: 18.5.17

Tomorrow we are going on our trip to Llandudno. The children have been told to dress in comfortable clothes suitable for walking around the Copper Mine and the Great Orme. Please do not wear jeans ~ as they will be very uncomfortable if it rains and we get wet. Light canvas trousers, jogging bottoms, leggings would be fine along with a top and jumper/cardigan. They will also need a coat as it can get very cold on the Orme even if the sun is shining! Sturdy boots or trainers will be fine.

We have told the children to bring a small bag (ruck sack, over the shoulder) to carry their lunch in and to put any items they may buy from the shop. They can bring £5.00 to spend.

We politely request that the children do not bring nuts with them as we have a pupil in year 4 with a nut allergy. Thank you.

Please keep your fingers crossed for sunshine tomorrow.smiley

Maths Homework: 12.5.17

In maths this week we have been looking at 'balanced equations'. Your homework today is to complete the sheet you have brought home all about balanced equations.

Remember! ~ the answers on both sides of the equation should be equal (the same).

eg. 4 + 6 = 2 + 8 In this equation the answer to both sides is 10.

Copy the equations into your homework book, please do not write on the sheet. Remember to write the date and title and underline both.

English homework 5th May:

Next week we will be starting a new unit of work in English. We will be looking at advertisements and will be building up to be able to write our own advertisements at the end of this half term.

Your homework this week is to have a look at the adverts in magazines and newspapers. Look for examples of small adverts that advertise products and experiences and services. Cut out the adverts you find and bring them into school on Monday 8th May in an envelope with your name on. Read each advert and have a think about what they all have in common. We will be looking at these in more detail in our English lessons next week. We will be annotating the adverts and identifying the key features.

Visit from PC Ashton: 18.1.17

PC Ashton came into school today to talk to us about staying safe when we are on the Internet. First we talked about the devices we can use to get onto the Internet. This was followed by a short film about choosing safe, strong passwords. The children then had a look at a variety of passwords and had to decide whether they were strong or weak. PC Ashton gave the children a number of tips to help them choose strong passwords such as :-

1. Use a variety of capital and lower case letters.

2. Substitute some of the letters for numbers.

3. Choose a longer password rather than a very short one.

4. Perhaps use some Welsh words.

5. Change passwords regularly.

She also talked to the children about things they shouldn't do whilst using the Internet.

1. Never give out personal information such as dates of birth, telephone numbers or where they live.

2. Make sure the privacy settings are set for only family  and chosen friends to see.

3. Never agree to meet someone they have 'met' on social media or through online games.

The children were asked to do a little homework - to have a look at the settings on their games etc to ensure they are set for friends and family only.

Below are a few photographs of PC Ashton's visit.

We set up games around the field and yard, such as 'Around the World', 'Sort it out', 'True or false', 'Number Chase', 'Golden Climb'. We had to work hard to solve number problems to complete each game and it was a race against time and against each other! We all had a great day and can't wait for our next session.

Susie Grindey Pictures

Last half-term our topic was 'Llandudno'. As part of our art work during this topic we looked at the work of Susie Grindey. She drew and painted lots of pictures of landscapes in Llandudno. We each chose our favourite piece of Susie Grindey artwork to copy. We began by sketching, then coloured using aqua pencils. After that we added water with a thin paint brush, before outlining our pictures. Finally, we cut a small pink heart and a larger red heart out of felt, and glued them onto our pictures in true Susie Grindey style.
