Reception Topics 2018-2019
Welcome to a new school year in reception class 2. The children have all settled really well, have had lots of fun and made many new friends. Over the coming weeks we will be sharing lots of pictures about what we are getting up to in class.
We have had a busy start to the new term. Thinking about our class rules and learning lots of new routines. Just to remind parents that we will be doing p.e on Wednesdays and Fridays. Your child will bring his/her book bag home every night and we encourage them to read with you as much as possible. Please return them to school every morning. Diolch
This week we have had our first trip to Forest School. We have been exploring the areas all around the school grounds and been learning all about boundaries and ways of staying safe.
We learned that we have to look and listen for cars coming in and out of school.
We met the school chickens
We found a place to sit in the outdoor classroom
We practiced changing into our wellies.
We learned about safety in the fire circle
Our new classroom displays
We have been busy painting self portraits and drawing characters from the Oxford reading Tree books.
Week beginning 24th September 2018
This week as part of our topic about 'ourselves' we have been looking at our bodies and in particular learning how parts of our bodies work.
We have been looking at how our eyes work and we learned that sometimes our eyes need a bit of help to work. Which means that some people wear glasses. We designed our own unique glasses in class.
We completed a class chart to see how many children had blue, green or brown eyes in each class. Blue and brown were the most popular eye colours in our class.
We looked at our internal organs and learned about the important jobs each organ does. We drew around some children to make a body shape before adding the organs and veins inside.
Today we had a great time raising money for school funds. While the junior children were walking up Moel Famau we did 3 laps of the obstacle course on the school field. It was good fun but it was really tiring. Thankyou to those parents who sent in £1 donation.
Monday 8th October
Today we had celebrated the Harvest Festival. We had a Harvest service led by a special visitor Mr. Slatter. He used to be a teacher at our school and now works and preaches in a church in Mold. Lots of the children in our class brought in tins, jars and packets of food to share with local people who do not have much food. Mr Slatter talked to us about Harvest and told us a story from The Bible. We sang a wonderful Harvest song we have been practising in class, "Cauliflowers fluffy and Cabbages Green..." Mrs Rodgers found a sing-along version online, if you want to learn it too search for it. Class 2 love signing it!
This week on Monday 15th October we have had more visitors in school. Pop Project came in to school . They are a group of talented musicians who came in to entertain us with their singing and playing of different instruments. They talked about "Ourselves", "The Future" and "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". They played different kinds of guitars and a keyboard. The children loved listening to and dancing to the music.
Also this week it has been DCF week in school. (This stands for digital, competency framework) It means that we use a lot of digital technology in school these days and we have been using different technologies in class this week.
We have been learning how to programme a beebot to move around the classroom. We press the buttons to give him instructions and when we press go, off he moves. We then used these skills to move creatures on apps on the interactive board and ipads. We have had lots of fun making the beebot spin around on the carpet.
Mrs Rodgers has introduced self-registration in our class this week. When we arrive in class in the morning we have to find our names on the interactive board and when we click on the circle a fairy-tale picture appears. Mrs Rodgers then knows if a child's picture is not on the screen then are not in school.
