Today was a lovely day at school. The Reception children came dressed in their own clothes and brought their favourite soft toy with them. During the day the children made their own food to eat and at the end of the day we had a teddy bears' picnic and disco. The children and the teddies really enjoyed it. Such a nice end to the day and the school year. Just one more get up before the long summer holiday.
Today (Friday 7th July) we had a lovely school trip to visit the aquarium at Rhyl. First we went for a walk to the lifeboat station and we talked to a lifeguard about the work he does. Then we went to the aquarium and we got to touch a starfish and a crab and we had a guided tour of the aquarium. We learned a lot about fish and walking through the tunnel under the sharks was a bit scary. We had our picnic lunch outside and later we watched a sea lion show before going to the beach to play. It was a great day but really tiring. There were a few children having a snooze on the way home.
Because of the rain we couldn't go outside to do p.e. so we did it inside with Class 2. We practised our aiming skills with bean bags. It was good fun.
On Thursday the children from Class 1 went up to Year 1 to see their new classroom and their new teacher. We got dressed up, we played with water, we had a science show, we used remote control cars.....SOOOOOOO BUSY!! We all loved it.. But by the end we were so tired. Thank you to all the grown ups who came along and a HUGE thank you to all the children who were so well behaved.
But poor Mrs.Smith. She comes in to hear readers every week and came along to help look after the children at Underwater Street. She couldn't undo her seat belt and had to slide out of it ......

Today (Monday 6th February) it was Class 1's turn to take assembly. They performed in front of the other Foundation Phase teachers and children in the hall. They were all excellent. They remembered their lines and spoke clearly and loudly. Da Iawn . Thank you for helping your child to practice at home. Diolch.
This week we have been learning about The Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the rooster. We looked at some information books, had a powerpoint presentation and tried using chopsticks. We used card and split pins to make moving dragons and some children made model dragons in the construction area.
This week (week beginning 23.1.17) we are doing some work on weighing. In class we are using balances to compare the weight of objects to find which is heavier and which is lighter. We have also used bathroom scales to weigh Mr. Williams. Today in our Forest School session we went for a walk to the weighbridge down the road. Here, they weigh vans and lorries to make sure they are not too heavy. When we got to the weighbridge there were 2 lorries waiting to be weighed. We met a really nice man called Paul, who tells the lorry drivers if their lorries are too heavy. He had a really cool car with flashing lights, he had a bright yellow jacket and a torch. He told us that if the lorries are too heavy he sometimes has to put a chain around their wheels so they can't be driven away. He told us that it is really dangerous if the lorries are over weight because it can stop their brakes working properly and it can make their tyres explode.
We thought you might like to see the displays we have made in the last 2 weeks. For our winter display Mrs.Jones helped us make some model snow globes using paper plates. We painted the background and then used our fingers to paint snow men and snowflakes.
Thank you for sending in kitchen roll tubes. We used the tubes and some string and kitchen foil to make a cup and ball game. They will come home in a few weeks. Mums and Dads and Grannies and Granddads will be able to have a go. It's not easy to do.
P.E. is great fun in Class 1.
This half term we are doing gymnastics in the hall.Today we used benches and mats and the climbing frames to practise balancing and moving in different ways. We talked about how to land safely, with knees bent and how to make sure that only one person is on each piece of equipment at one time. The children did REALLY well.
Today (Tuesday 10th) we had our first Forest School session of the new year. We went for a long walk. We had a talk about crossing the road safely. One little boy from our class saw his sister at the bus stop. He was so excited. In our p.e.lessons we are learning to balance and we found somewhere near our school where we could balance and walk along a narrow edge.
What a great day. We went to see little Red at the Unity Theatre in Liverpool. The coach journey was exciting because we went in a really long tunnel and the show was BRILL. The children really enjoyed it. They sat and listened REALLY well. It was a little bit scary when the 3 wolves were on stage but it all turned out ok in the end. Some of the children had a sleep on the way home.
The girls' choir from Hawarden High School came to sing and play for us this morning. They are very good. We joined in with some of the carols.

. Really funny too. Amelia B said "I LOVED THAT."
Then we had a busy time making the posters and the price tags for the Bird Feeders we are selling on Friday!
This week is Science and Entrepreneurial Week at school.
We have been finding out about birds and the food they eat in winter.
We tried some different materials (cheese lard flour) to see which would be the best to make a food ball for the birds. We found the cheese too hard to mould and the flour too crumbly but the lard was perfect. Today we made fat balls for the birds. We rolled the lard into a sphere and then we rolled the lard in bird seed and finally we made a hole and put a ribbon through. It was all a bit sticky and gooey but great fun. Have a look at our photos and remember to come to the school hall after school on Friday to buy a fat ball for the birds in your garden.
This afternoon we went for a walk to see if we could find any birds. We saw pigeons, blackbirds and some angry birds too! It was a lovely walk and we really enjoyed it.
We did see lots of other birds too ....... but they flew away when they heard us coming so we didn't get a photo
Today we had very special visitors from Techniquest, they showed us some exciting science experiments. We had so much fun! We got to make our own snow and sorted out objects into natural and man-made. The children also used a magnet to find the real crown for the frog prince.
Today (21.11.16) your child has brought home a sheet with words to learn for our Christmas Nativity to be held in 2 weeks. Please, please, please help your child to learn his/her words. The sheet also says the role/character your child will be playing in the performance and the costume he/she will need to wear. Many thanks.

This morning we had a visitor from The Dogs Trust. She came in to talk to us about how to look after dogs, how to keep safe when there is a dog around and how important it is to clean up the mess our dogs make.
This week at school is Humanities Week. Each Year group has chosen a country to study. In Reception we are learning about Spain.
Don't the children look fantastic dressed ion their traditional Spanish costumes or the colours of the Spanish flag. Gracias parents
We have been finding out about 2 famous Spanish artists, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
Salvador Dali had a great moustache.
In Forest School we collected leaves and twigs and sticks to make a class picture of Salvador Dali's face. We made Salvador's moustache by using a big stick one of the children found.
Class 1 have used the Ipads to make their own Picasso pictures! Take a look at their amazing work.
Evan used the I PAD to draw a picture of the flag of Spain.
We looked at the Spanish flag. Some children made their own flag and others used small flags to put on sandcastles they had made.
We used fruit, lemonade and fruit juice to make some "sangria".
We looked at a picture of The Spanish Palace in Madrid and tried to build a model of it. Our trainee teacher student (Miss. Welch) helped. Gracias Miss. Welch
We looked at some paintings by a famous artist called Salvador Dali. we tried to recreate one of his paintings using playdough and lolly sticks.
Here is Mrs. Jones fantastic attempt. Bravo Mrs. Jones!
O dear .............
In our writing work, we tasted some chorizo sausage. Some people REALLY liked it but others weren't so keen..........
Yesterday one of the children had a bumped head and needed some ice. Another child asked how do we make ice. We got some water and put it in a plastic cup. We put the cup in the freezer and left it overnight. Today we took it out of the freezer to see what had happened.
We then put the cup on the windowsill and left it for an hour to see what happened to the ice.
Forest Schools 27/9/16
Today was our first Forest School session in Reception. We started off by going for a little walk around the local area. We found muddy puddles to jump in and met some friends along the way (Neeiiiiiiggggghhhhhbours !!)
When we got back to our Forest School area we were set our task of working with a friend and making faces! We collected natural objects and made eyes, noses, mouths and ears. It was so much fun! Mr.Williams and Mrs. Davies were very impressed with the children's efforts! What fantastic children we have!
Mr.Williams (Class Teacher) Mrs. Jones (Teaching Assistant)
Welcome to Class 1
Today (22.9.16) your child has brought home a Numeracy and a Literacy target. These are things we would like you to practise at home as often as possible. We will be practising them at school too. At the end of this half term we will assess your child's progress with these targets and set new targets if they have achieved their previous ones. many thanks.
Thankyou for sending in a picture of your child as a baby. We have displayed them in class.
Welcome to Reception. Your child has now been in class for a few days and I hope he/she has enjoyed settling in.
Each night your child will bring home his/her book bag. Please help your child by reading the book with your child. To begin with your child's book may have pictures but no words. Please help your child to talk about the pictures, to hold the book properly and to turn the pages. When your child has a book with words, please help him or her to sound out the letters to read the words. Please remember the way we pronounce these letters may be different from the way you learned and it is important that they are pronounced the same at school and home. Please see me if you are unsure or look at Read Write Inc websites.
In the front of your child's book log you will find a sheet with letters on. The ones circled are the ones your child knows. Please help your child learn the ones we have underlined at school. We will only learn a couple of new ones at a time.
You will also have received a sheet with the names of the characters in the books your child brings home. The main characters are Mum Dad Biff (short for Elizabeth) Chip Kipper and Floppy (the dog).
Thankyou for sending pumps for p.e. to school.
Thankyou for sending fruit and baking money.
We have discussed our school Golden Rules and this may be something you wish to discuss at home with your child.
Your child may also talk about the Tedi Hapus Iawn (happy teddy) and Tedi Trist (Sad teddy). Children's names are placed on these if they do something that make us really proud or if they do something that makes us sad at school.
Finally, for now, a couple of times per year your child will bring home a puppet dragon (Dil or Del) on a Friday. Please write a couple of pages of what your child disd over the weekend and include a couple of pictures and PLEASE try to include a couple of Welsh words or phrases.Diolch.
