In the afternoon we went into the hall, listened to some songs and had our picnic. The children, the teddies and the grown ups all had a great time.
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside Oh we do like to be beside the sea..........Today we had a fantastic time in Rhyl. We visited the aquarium where we saw lots and lots of sea creatures. We even got to touch a crab and a star fish and a sea anenome. We also watched a great seal show.
Later we went to play on the beach. It was such a great day out but we are all feeling really tired now.
We have been extremely busy, using our cutting, sticking, drawing and colouring skills to make things in class and now our classroom looks fantastic. You can also see our Working Wall. This shows how we have been learning about syllables. Splitting words into syllables is helping us to learn how to spell long words.
You can also see how much fun we are having in our role play area, dressing up and playing in the pirate ship.
In class we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We have learned a little rhyme:
2 4 6 8 zero
Even numbers you should know.
We have also been looking at 2 and 3 digit numbers.
We know that if you want to know if a number is odd or even you have to look at the last digit.
This afternoon (19/6/2018) we went on a walk to find odd and even numbers in the local area. We saw some numbers on signs, on houses and on car number plates. We said the rhyme each time so we could work out whether the numbers we saw were odd or even.

We had a great day today. Pandemonium Theatre came in to tell us 3 tales from Wales. We learned a lot and had great fun. We joined in with some songs and some children even went up to the front to take part.
One of the tales was about 2 dragons. When we came back to class we made up our own story about 2 dragons.
Once upon a time two dragons came to Wales. They came to Ewloe, they came to our school. One was a goody called Welshy and the other was a baddy called Whitey. They came in to the classroom and Whitey said "Let me fight the children. " He stuck his claws out and tried to scratch the children in Class 1. The children screamed "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH." The good dragon shouted at the bad one, "GET AWAY FROM THESE CHILDREN" and he breathed fire and melted the bad dragon. The children in class 1 all said "DIOLCH" and the red dragon was a hero.
This week in our Forest School session, we went for a walk to look for signs of spring. We thought it might be a little too early but we saw crocuses, snowdrops, daffodils and lots and lots of buds on the trees. Spring has sprung!
This week is Science and Technology week at school. We have been doing an experiment to find out which liquid is the best for cleaning dirty coins. We used milk, water and ketchup. We used 3 coin and 3 bowls. We put one coin in each bowl and then covered 1 coin in milk, 1 coin in ketchup and 1 coin in water. We predicted which liquid we thought would be the best at cleaning the coins. We left them for 2 days. The liquid that was best was..........Ketchup.

We had building blocks we were trying to balance on top of each other, we had "stilts" to try to balance and walk on and we found other things on the school field that we tried to balance on. It was cold and it was muddy but we had a great time.

What an exciting week. School closed on Monday beacuse of snow, Tuesday's rehearsal cancelled and Wednesday's performance postponed. On Thursday it was Santa's grotto and today (Friday) Christmas jumper day. The children all look fantastic as you can see. We look forward to seeing you in church on Monday morning.
Today (5.12.17) we had a puppet show from Coverdale Puppets. The Nursery children came in to the hall with us too. Mr. Williams was sad because he had to go to a meeting and he missed all the fun. The dancing sheep were really good.

At the easel, children have been looking at a painting by Monet and painting their own version of a poppy field.
We have finished our Bonfire Night display. Our topic at the moment is Colour and this display is certainly colourful.
The children have been learning this rhyme:
Build a bonfire, build a bonfire,
Put the branches on the top.
Put the chestnuts in the middle
And listen for the POP!

This week (W/C 2/10/17) we had Forest School. We found natural items such as stones and twigs to make 2D shapes. We searched the field and used a tally chart to see how many triangles, circles, squares and rectangles we could see and we used cup cake cases to collect the number of items it said on the cup cake case. We were really lucky with the weather, although it was really cloudy at least it didn't rain.
This week is a special week in Reception. Last week we were learning how to say hello in lots of different languages. We talked to the children about the different countries where those languages are used and when we asked the children which country they would like to learn more about they said Spain. So, this week we are learning about Spain.
We have been looking at some paintings by Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso and we have been making some "sangria." The children have been trying to build a model of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and been colouring some Spanish flags. We have been talking about and drawing the things we might need to take with us on a trip to Spain and the children have been making their own passport.
We went on a forest school walk. We talked about crossing the road safely, we looked at 2D shapes in the environment and we talked about dangers such as toadstools and red berries. There was also time to walk through some muddy puddles.
We are Class 1. We have been busy painting our portraits. We have started to learn some new songs and we are getting to know the routines in our new class.
